Literally “breast wart” / meaning: “nipple”
The nipples are among the most sensual parts of the human body. In a 2011 study, scientists found out through MRI imaging that when they are stimulated, the sensations travel to the same part of the brain that reacts when the genitals are touched.
This leads us to the question: Why does such a sensual organ carry a name that appears like an issue you would immediately run to a dermatologist with? The word Brustwarze, literally translating to “breast warts,” simply sounds like something that does not belong on a healthy human body. Maybe it’s just the resemblance to disgusting things like Feigwarzen (“genital warts”) or Dornwarzen (“plantar warts”), but the word is definitely a miscast.
Granted, the English equivalent “nipple” is not a happy choice either. It sounds more like something a plumber would use. Which indeed he does, because a “nipple” is also a pipe connector. So, while Super Mario was never able to hook up with Peach, he can still tell you a thing or two about nipples.
